EMHS farewells five Board Members

“Navigating change and complexity is a constant challenge for any board, and it's particularly pronounced within the dynamic healthcare environment,” said Pia Turcinov AM outgoing Board Chair of the East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS).
“I will always remain a friend and advocate for EMHS, confident in its future and the exceptional people who drive it,” she added.
Pia, appointed to the Board in July 2020, became Chair in January 2023 after an impressive background in law, business, and corporate governance which extended into a range of not-for-profit and public sector organisations, all with a focus on innovation and technology.
She will now focus on her work as General Partner of Fund WA, a venture capital fund which invests in groundbreaking local innovations that are poised to make a significant and positive impact on healthcare delivery worldwide.
Pia joined the Board during the COVID-19 pandemic – a time that presented unique challenges and unpredictability, but also underscored the incredible resilience and collaborative spirit that drives
EMHS as a health service provider.
Listing the key highlights of her tenure, she included expansion of the Health in a Virtual Environment (HIVE) service; the creation of dedicated executive leadership positions for Aboriginal Health and Mental Health; and securing funds to expand the Royal Perth Hospital and St John of God Midland Public Hospital emergency departments.
“I am also deeply grateful for the opportunity to have met so many of our dedicated clinicians, nurses, allied health workers, service teams, and administrators. Hearing their stories and perspectives during our regular site visits has been both challenging and profoundly motivating,” she said.
Pia thanked the other Board members and EMHS Executive for their collaboration, guidance and friendship.
