Orthotic and Prosthetic Service

The Orthotic and Prosthetic team assess the physical and functional limitations of people resulting from illnesses and disabilities, including limb amputations. From this assessment, an orthotist/prosthetist provides orthoses and prostheses to restore function or compensate for muscular and skeletal deficiencies and/or deformities.

Services

Our skilled orthotists/prosthetists and technicians specialise in all aspects of the following treatment:

  • patient assessment
  • 3D scanning or plaster casting for custom bracing
  • Orthotic prescription and design, including lower limb, upper limb and spinal
  • Interim Prosthetic prescription and design, including lower limb and upper limb
  • technical manufacture
  • customised fitting
  • review and evaluation.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Inpatients of East Metropolitan Health Service and South Metropolitan Health Service hospitals.
  • Outpatients requiring complex Orthotic service.
  • Provide an interim Prosthetic service.

Orthotics and Prosthetics is not a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider. We are only able to provide Orthotic services to patients who are unable to access a complex service via a community Orthotist.
