Orthotic and Prosthetic Service
Orthotists and Prosthetists are allied health professionals who provide a broad range of services to support individuals in managing their functional and mobility needs. They assess, prescribe, design, manufacture, and fit orthoses (braces and supports) and prostheses (artificial limbs) to optimise independence and quality of life.
Orthotists and Prosthetists work collaboratively with clients and multidisciplinary teams to achieve personal and treatment goals through:

Designing, Prescribing, and Fitting
Developing customised orthoses and prostheses in partnership with clients to meet individual functional and rehabilitation objectives.

Manufacturing and Coordination
Undertaking and/or coordinating the safe and accurate manufacture of devices to ensure quality and compliance with clinical standards.

Evaluation and Adjustment
Continually assessing the fit, function and safety of the orthoses and prostheses, making modifications as required to achieve optimal outcomes aligned with treatment.
The Orthotic outpatient service is based at Fiona Stanley Hospital with additional acute inpatient and spinal outreach services at Royal Perth Hospital.

Lower limb orthoses for conditions such as foot drop, neuromuscular disorders, and complex deformities
- Upper limb orthoses for functional support, post operative stabilisation, and rehabilitation

Custom foot orthoses and modifications for complex foot conditions
Inpatient services at Royal Perth Hospital, including:
- Spinal orthoses for acute fractures and post-operative stabilisation
- Lower limb orthoses for conditions such as foot drop, neuromuscular disorders, and complex deformities
- Upper limb orthoses for functional support, post operative stabilisation, and rehabilitation
- Rigid removable dressings post amputation
Spinal outreach service from Royal Perth Hospital to:

Prosthetic Service
The Prosthetic service is based at Fiona Stanley Hospital with limited services at Royal Perth Hospital.
FSH provides interim prosthetic services for the following group of patients:
- Inpatients at FSH who are likely to have improved outcomes as a direct result of prosthetic services.
- Outpatients who require prosthetic devices that have been accepted for rehab by the amputee consultant.
- Prosthetic limb assessment, fitting, and ongoing review for upper and lower extremity amputations
- Trans-metatarsal amputee clinic.
Please note there is no definitive Prosthetic service at FSH or RPH.
