RPH Orthopaedic Surgery

Research is one of the key pillars in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Royal Perth Hospital. Our aim is to translate research into evidence-based practice to drive clinical improvement for our patients.

Research intent and focus

Our focus is on improving patient outcomes in joint replacement surgery, soft tissue sports injuries, fractures and high-energy trauma.

  • RPH instituted one of the first joint replacement registries in the country.
  • We collaborate closely with our biomechanics department and the Centre for Implant Retrieval and Analysis (CITRA), studying new and old prosthetic implants to drive improvements in design and safety.
  • Being attached to the State Trauma Unit, we have a keen interest in studying outcomes and management of high acuity orthopaedic trauma.
