Medihotels

Adult patients at East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) hospitals who no longer require specialist level care may be transferred to a Medihotel.

We have two – one at Royal Perth Hospital and one next to Fiona Stanley Hospital – that offer a range of nursing, allied health and medical services.

These feel less like a hospital and allow patients and their families to plan what is next in the patient's recovery.

Referrals to both medihotels are via the usual e-referral process.

Find out below about the Murdoch Medihotel

If you transfer to the Medihotel at Murdoch, your 24-hour nursing and medical care will be continued by the Fiona Stanley Hospital medical team, in consultation with your current treatment team.

They will continue your treatment plan in liaison with physiotherapists, social workers and pharmacists. If your condition changes, you may be transferred to Fiona Stanley Hospital until you are well enough to return to the Medihotel.

Who is eligible?

Patients eligible for transfer must be:

  • over the age of 65 years (or over the age of 45 for First Nations People)
  • no longer require acute medical or rehabilitation care in hospital
  • awaiting placement in either respite, transitional care or residential care.

How much does it cost?

The stay is free for Medicare card holders.

What is included in my stay?

You will stay in a single room that includes free television, phone (local calls are free) and an ensuite.

You will receive meals that are cooked on site. Any special dietary requirements will be accommodated.

Tea and coffee facilities are available for families and visitors. Patient and family lounge areas are available.

Location

The Medihotel is located in the Aegis Health building at 5 Bedbrook Row, Murdoch, across from Fiona Stanley Hospital.

You will be located on Level 8 in Ward M8.

Access

Visitors between 8am and 6pm can access the Medihotel via the ground floor foyer of the Aegis Health building (5 Bedbrook Row, Murdoch) and take the lift to ward M8.
