As a key EMHS project, the Byford Health Hub is being positioned as a game-changer designed to bring health and social care closer to home.

The project team is currently progressing service planning, engagement with potential service providers, and raising community awareness about the hub, which will be located in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.

A recent milestone was the inaugural meeting of the Byford Health Hub Community and Consumer Advisory Group, which is made up of residents from the shire with diverse experience. Also present at the meeting were Local Member for Darling Range Hugh Jones, Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale Activation Manager Rebecca Steinki, as well as EMHS Community and Population Health Director Melanie James, all of whom thanked members of the consumer group for their contribution to the development.

The development is part of a 2021 election commitment, and already the State Government has committed more than $40 million for the capital build.

Byford is one of the fastest growing communities in Western Australia, and is forecast to grow three times faster than the State population. In turn, the future needs for health and social care services are expected to grow with the population.

EMHS has collaborated with the Shire and local community to develop the Byford Health Hub, which will be a single-entry point to a range of co-located primary, community and specialist services, with a flexible approach and digitally enabled options. The objective of the design is to ensure it is consumer friendly, and that it includes a range of consultation, meeting and multi-purpose rooms, for both services and local community groups to use.

The hub also represents a much-needed improvement to the accessibility and affordability of healthcare for the Serpentine-Jarrahdale community and is a leading example of how WA Health is delivering on the Sustainable Health Review mandate for person-centred, innovative and financially sustainable healthcare.

For more about the hub, visit www.emhs.health.wa.gov.au and search ‘Byford Health Hub’, or email your query to ByfordHealthHubProgram@health.wa.gov.au.
