Work starts on major Royal Perth Hospital ED Expansion Project
Work has officially started on the Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department Expansion Project - a major investment in the future of emergency care for West Australians.
Construction has officially commenced on the $807.3 million Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department Expansion Project, marking a significant milestone in the future of emergency care for Western Australians.
The major redevelopment will deliver additional treatment spaces, increased bed capacity and improved patient flow, strengthening the hospital's ability to provide world-class trauma and emergency care as demand continues to grow.
Importantly, the Emergency Department will remain fully operational throughout construction, ensuring patients continue to receive uninterrupted emergency care while the project is underway.
The expansion is being delivered with support from the Cook Government's $2 billion Building Hospitals Fund and represents a significant investment in Western Australia's public health system.
Once complete, the project will enhance Royal Perth Hospital's capacity to meet the healthcare needs of the community for years to come.
Premier Roger Cook said of the project: "Today marks the start of construction on a major upgrade to Royal Perth Hospital, as we get on with delivering the health infrastructure Western Australians need.
"Today's sod-turn represents a critical step forward in delivering a modern, fit-for-purpose emergency department that will support Western Australians for decades to come.
"This project is part of our record investment in hospitals, and it's about ensuring our emergency departments can meet growing demand now and into the future.
"We're not just planning for the future, we're building it."
