The East Metropolitan Youth Unit (EMyU) – a 12- bed acute inpatient psychiatric service for young people aged 16-24 – was recently recognised as a finalist in the 2019 WA Health Excellence Awards for supporting families, carers and loved ones to develop the skills and knowledge to assist with the mental health recovery of our young consumers. Rainbow Standards Tick Achievement – RPBG: WA Health Excellence Award Finalist 07 November 2019 Recently, the Royal Perth Bentley Group inpatient mental health services were named as a finalist in the 2019 WA Health Excellence Awards for their Rainbow Tick Accreditation achievement – recognising their commitment to delivering safe, inclusive recovery-focussed services that are welcoming and supportive of our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) consumers and staff. LGBTI consumers often experience stigma and discrimination which impact health outcomes due to a fear or reluctance to seek help. Significantly, LGBTI people have poorer mental health and higher rates of suicide than other Australians (source Beyond Blue). RAPID (RPH, Addition, Psychiatry, Intervention, Discharge): a WA Health Excellence Award Finalist 07 November 2019 The Royal Perth Hospital Addiction, Psychiatry, Intervention, Discharge (RAPID) Team was designed to assist patients seeking specialised Alcohol and other Drug (AOD) treatment. RAPID was borne out of the redesign of the Royal Perth Hospital emergency department (RPH ED) and is the first team of its kind to combine Mental Health and AOD specialist clinicians in one team. The team offers a single point of contact (24/7) to RPH wards and units seeking referral to and specialist advice mental health and AOD. RAPID team works alongside Homeless Health Care, RUAH Choices and RPH Aboriginal Health Liaison officers to meet the needs of an often marginalised and vulnerable cohort of patients to ensure they receive the appropriate support and care in hospital and from community health providers. Providing HIV Management for People in Rural and Remote Areas: a WA Health Excellence Award Finalist 07 November 2019 Everything we do at EMHS is done so with our community in mind, including delivering health care services that are responsive to the needs of some of the most isolated individuals in WA. The RPH Rural and Remote HIV Service was recently recognised as a finalist in the 2019 WA Health Excellence Awards for overcoming unique challenges to accessing healthcare in some rural and remote communities. This program delivers a service that is equivalent to healthcare received in metropolitan Perth, and to internationally recognised standards. The RPH Rural and Remote service commenced in 1998 following an increase in patients diagnosed with HIV in rural areas. New Virtual Multidisciplinary Foot Ulcer Clinic supports rural and remote health care delivery 01 November 2019 A new inter-agency healthcare initiative is helping to deliver best practice diabetes related foot care to rural and remote communities in WA. Healthcare teams from Boab Health Services, Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services (KAMS) and Royal Perth Hospital recently undertook training on a new 3D measurement, imaging and documentation system is being rolled out across the Kimberley region to support multidisciplinary healthcare for monitoring and treating diabetic foot wounds. Funding from Diabetes WA allowed Boab Health Service and KAMS to purchase this significant technology that will support multidisciplinary healthcare for diabetic foot wounds.
